After growing up in the small, southern town of Brewton, Alabama I earned a bachelors degree in Studio Art and promptly began a career in banking. Yep, banking. Next came a master’s degree in counseling which led to ten exhilarating years as a therapist and child advocate. Finally, at 42, age and experience have given me the courage to do what I couldn’t do at age 20 -follow my passion.
I work in oils, watercolor and photography. I begin a piece by choosing a subject that moves me and compels me to create. I’m drawn to intense lights and shadows, captured moments, exaggerations of simple things and the unexpected. When my work is going well, I am proud, downright shocked and always grateful.
When people see my work, I'd like them to feel something. Anything! If my work evokes feeling, I am accomplished. Most of my formal training is in watercolor so I’m currently pushing myself to explore oils and to paint without fear. My husband Greg and I will be moving from West Virginia back to Birmingham, Alabama in 2010 and I have a lot of creative time to make up. It is my intention to make my next 42 years count in a huge, huge way.
